About the Team
Fanatics Collectibles is a new company working at the intersection of collectibles and technology. Backed by some of the best investors, sports properties and operators in the world, we are integrating with Fanatics’ global digital sports platform – which includes 900 sports relationships and more than 90 million reachable fans - to reimagine the collectibles business for the 21st century.

We are a startup building products to transform the trading card industry. We aren’t a startup in the traditional sense, though. While we are a small team building new products from the ground up, we also have the backing of Fanatics – the world’s largest sports merchandiser with over 900 sports relationships and more than 94 million reachable fans and Topps – a household brand that’s been around for over 75 years. We have exclusive licensing deals with the MLB, NFL and NBA and the products we build will be used by millions of trading cards fans from day 1. We are out to reinvent the trading card industry, which is a bold and ambitious mission.
What does this mean as a member of the engineering team?
We move fast. We have a lot to do and are looking for folks who will drive projects to completion with a sense of urgency, but not at the expense of quality, scalability and performance.
We think about scale. The trading card market is large and we will be the de facto entry point into the hobby.

We’re pragmatic. We embrace new technologies, but not just for the sake of it. We like server-rendered HTML, using a PaaS for deployments, and writing enough tests to give us confidence but not striving for code coverage numbers just for the sake of it.
We are product-focused. We’re building products that will reach millions and always tie our work back to how it will add value for our users.

The Role
We are building a multi-product ecosystem (traditional ecommerce, live commerce, business to business, digital collectibles) and reimagining the collector experience. Our Platform team is responsible for two main areas: the shared services that enable collectors to move seamlessly between experiences and the infrastructure to help our teams rapidly iterate and deploy products at scale. As the Director of Engineering for the Platform team, you’ll be responsible for leading these efforts and growing a small, but talented team to support your efforts. You’ll work closely with other product and engineering teams within the org, along with business stakeholders, to build alignment, develop a roadmap, and find your team the clarity it needs to execute effectively and make an impact. This team is all about impact and identifying areas where an investment (whether it be an API for a specific feature needed in multiple channels, deployment infra, or developer XP) can have an outsized impact.

  • Scale and lead the Engineering team working on our shared Platform
  • Operate in an ambiguous and dynamic environment to identify high impact problems, and work with the team to translate problems into actionable work.
  • Build strong relationships with internal cross-functional stakeholders and collaborate with leaders to prioritize technical efforts and provide input on product features and capabilities
  • Drive stakeholder partnership to establish clear priorities and define expectations which translate into effective deliverables
  • Deep knowledge and ability to drive best practices around industry standards including scalability, resiliency, security
  • Contribute to and lead technical discussions around architecture and software design
  • Evaluate legacy technologies and find creative solutions to unblock your team that is aligned with an articulated long term vision

  • Qualifications
  • 10+ years of Software Engineering experience - ideally in “multi-product” companies. Bonus (but not required) if those products are consumer facing commerce/Sports
  • 3+ years experience in managing teams
  • Experience working in high growth environment while maintaining positive and flexible attitude
  • Strong initiative; self-motivated
  • Experience with Elixir is not required but is a plus and the foundation of our current tech stack and team’s expertise
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • The salary range for  this position is $225,000- $275,000 which represents base pay only and does not include short-term or long-term incentive compensation. When determining base pay, as part of a final compensation package, we consider several factors such as location, experience, qualifications, and training.
